Muscat - To prevent desert locusts from spreading to other areas, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) is undertaking field trials to test the use of drones to manage desert locusts at breeding locations.
According to a MAFWR official, "the ministry is undertaking trials utilizing drones to investigate and monitor desert locusts in partnership with the Desert Locust Control Authority in Al Wusta, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and relevant government departments."
The program, he continued, is a component of a plan and early warning system being created to stop the spread of desert locusts.
The program, according to the MAFWR official, aims to stop the spread of locusts in isolated locations and stop the destruction of agricultural crops.
